Konsekvenser ved sameksistens mellem økologisk raps og GM raps i Danmark Organic Eprints

Inden for ganske få år forventes det, at GM sorter af raps vil blive dyrket i Dannmark. Raps er en af de danske afgrøder, der har det største potentiale for genspredning. Det er derfor nødvendigt at løse de sameksistensproblemer der vil opstå, når GM raps dyrkes i nærheden af økologisk raps og ikke-GM raps. I hvilken grad agerkål og spildraps og urenheder i certificeret rapsfrø bidrager til forekomsten af GM under forskellige forhold, undersøges i et igangværende projekt på Risø og KVL.

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) trees have a lifespan of up to 100 years in their natural environment, the lower strata of tropical alluvial forests. Sustainability of global cocoa production is at stake due to the deterioration of soil fertility, high losses due to pests and diseases (P&D) and old tree stock. Producing cocoa in shaded, low input agroforestry systems offers a potential solution for achieving long-term productivity and sustainability. However, shade-tolerant cocoa clones are needed which are productive and resistant to P&D, as well as meeting the quality standards requested by the industry. This project was designed as an iterative process of describing quality profiles of “organic” and “high-quality” wheat and finding adequate, sensory-based methods to do so. Wheat growing in 1998-2000 at the DOK long-term field trial (FLIEßBACH et al. 2007, MÄDER et al. 2002) was repeatedly investigated. The ripening phase started earlier and lasted longer in treatment D2 (bio-dynamic) and was shortest in treatment K2 (conventional). Coded grain samples were examined in respect to treatment differ-ences in smell and taste. BIO SUISSE Considers Hybrid Rye Ban Organic Eprints

Hybrid varieties are increasingly and widely used in organic farming, although there has never been a conscious decision to do so. This is especially true for vegetables and maize. For bread cereals, especially rye, the decision can still be taken in Switzerland. Organic rye is grown on only 250 ha, about 20% of which are hybrid varieties. About 60% of the total organic demand is imported.

Biologisch gezüchtete Sorten und biologisch vermehrtes Saatgut sind für die Zukunft des biologischen Landbaus von zentraler Bedeutung. Für diese Zukunft leisten die biologisch-dynamischen Getreide- und Gemüsezüchter als bisher einzige in der „Bio-Szene“ wertvolle Pionierarbeit. Zusammenfassung Der vorliegende Bericht möchte am Beispiel des Roggens Informationen und Argumente für die Diskussion bereitstellen, ob Hybridsorten mit den Prinzipien des biologischen Landbaus vereinbar sind oder nicht. Während sich bei Mais und Gemüse Hybridsorten im biologischen Landbau schon ohne eine grundsätzliche Entscheidungsfindung eingebürgert haben, ist in der Schweiz beim Getreide eine grundsätzliche Meinungsbildung und Entscheidung noch möglich. Dies betrifft aktuell vor allem den Roggen. Hybridsorten entstehen aus einer gelenkten Kreuzung zweier verschiedener reinerbiger Zuchtlinien, deren gemeinsame Nachkommen die Eltern im Ertrag übertreffen. Hybrid Varieties for Organic Cereals? Prospects and acceptance of hybrid breeding for organic production Organic Eprints

Hybrid breeding utilizes the advantages characterizing F1 plants in a targeted manner: Vigour, uniformity, and a combination of all dominant traits of the parental lines. It gives breeders secure licences, as farmers can not save seed from hybrid varieties with a view to replanting. Regarding rye, the current advantages of hybrid varieties are primarily the higher yields but also improved resistances to lodging and sprouting. However, farmers can only benefit from higher yields if the limited market for organic rye in Switzerland can be expanded. The currently available hybrid rye varieties have higher susceptibility to leaf rust and ergot infections. Introduction In Switzerland, the organic sector has been trying to reduce the massive import of protein crops for feed by encouraging grain legume cultivation during the past years (Clerc et al, 2015). The main limiting factors of low yield stability and high weed pressure were successfully overcome through intercropping of peas and faba beans with barley and oats, respectively. Thus, the production of peas and faba beans grew continuously from 2010 to 2015 from 200t and 90t to 1170t and 560t, respectively (bioaktuell 2017). Bio Suisse Bans Hybrid Cereals Organic Eprints

On April 19th, 2006, the 100 delegates of Bio Suisse, the Swiss organic umbrella organization, voted to ban Hybrid varieties in organic cereals (except maize). This decision primarily concerns rye. Organic rye is grown on only 250 ha, about 20% of which is sown to hybrid varieties at present. About 60% of total organic demand is imported. Hybrid varieties of the other cereals are not yet being grown. The delegates decided that it is time to act now to send a signal to breeders and to the international organic community before the alternatives to hybrids vanish.

Vermehrung von Bio-Saatgut – ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung Organic Eprints

Der Beitrag setzt sich mit der aktuellen Situation der Verfügbarkeit von Biosaatgut auseinander. In den Schlussfolgerungen heisst es: 1.) Der Einsatz von Bio-Saatgut im Bio-Landbau sollte mit allen Mitteln gefördert werden. 2.) In letzter Zeit wurden in dieser Richtung grosse Schritte gemacht (Das Bewusstsein ist gewachsen, das Angebot ist sehr stark gewachsen und durch Datenbanken transparenter geworden, die Richtlinien unterstützen den Einsatz von Bio-Saatgut. 3.) Wir sind noch lange nicht am Ziel, für einzelne Kulturgruppen gibt es überhaupt noch kein Bio-Saatgut.
